Not long after writing my second ‘tip’ on performance anxiety, and quite by chance, I heard part of an interesting Radio New Zealand interview where the issue of performance anxiety was being discussed. I didn’t realise at the time but the focus was on issues surrounding children being pushed too hard, too soon to perform on stage. However, the ideas I heard mentioned also apply to adult and professional musicians.

One of the things that stood out to me as new to my understanding is the idea that not every person will have success with the usual performance anxiety avoidance techniques. In such cases there may be deep-seated, psychological reasons behind the anxiety and if so professional advice is available to assist with such issues.
