Bruce Paine standing in Alberton Ballroom

Picking up on the theme of spiritual guidance while composing for the Alberton DVD, I recall giving myself a fright one afternoon at the house. I was recording the 1870s music box songs that became part of the DVD soundtrack. Completely alone after hours in the Alberton ballroom, with headphones on and listening for any traffic noise that might spoil the recordings, I suddenly heard what sounded like ghostly voices whispering behind me!

For a moment I thought, “It’s true! There are ghosts at Alberton!” But looking carefully across the room, I saw I was completely alone — no Kerr-Taylor apparitions to frighten me. A few moments later, I realised the sounds were coming from the music box mechanism itself, convincingly mimicking ghostly whispering.
