There's been an encouraging development announced in the news today concerning one of New Zealand's most beautiful natural wonders; the Waikoropupū Springs, near Takaka in Golden Bay. It has at last been granted the highest level of legal protection. The springs captured my imagination during a visit some years ago and became the theme for the third movement of the 'Tua Marina Sonata' which I wrote specially for guitarist John Couch. The suite is featured on his outstanding album 'Whenua O Te Manu' together with works by Vincent Lindsey-Clark, Christopher Norton, Peter Leask & others. With beautifully designed artwork, it is a real collectors item and highly recommend.
