I’ve made the decision to close my CD Baby and Spotify accounts.
CD Baby recently introduced what they call a “Spotify Artificial Streaming Fee” — a charge applied to artists for supposed irregular streaming activity, even though we have no control over how or where our music is played. After discovering that these fees were being deducted from my earnings across other platforms, I decided enough was enough.
While I regret that this may disappoint a few genuine listeners on Spotify, I feel an enormous sense of relief. It’s good to be free of that anxiety.
Over time, I may be offering my recordings through Bandcamp, which provides a fairer and more artist-friendly way to share music.
At present, three of my albums are available there: Lateral Lines, Alberton, and The Selwyn Recital.
Note: There are still references to online streaming mentioned throughout this website. It will be a gradual process to adjust them accordingly. The tracks will remain accessible for the time being and for around 60 days from the date of this posting.
